Yes I have looked into these which you have taken from wififreespot.com. Some are already on the map. Others are at accommodation which is going to be added in the future. Others I can't find any further information on and would prefer they were verified as still existing and not an unintentional unsecured AP by someone.
I noticed the New Mobil On the Run petrol station in balmoral has a big sign saying free WI FI inside. I havent tried it and don't know if all On the Runs have Free WI FI or not !!
Hi,
Thanks for this great service. I just installed the .gpi file, but all entries N of Wellsford are missing. What gives?
I can't find an information relating to this. If you can confirm that free wifi is provided here and any conditions. I will add it to the map.
Sorry I hadn't updated the version on the server. It is now updated with all the free hotspots. Its nice to know that the .gpi file is being used as I initially created for my personal use. If there is another filetype you would like to see, please let me know.
Yes the new Mobil "on the Runs" do have free wifi, there are no conditions and i often use it when i need to check emails in a hurry etc.. I use the Mobil on Wairau Road Glenfield, and also the Mobil on Oteha Valley road in Albany. There must be countless other mobil's now …
Ok thanks, will add those ones. If any others can be confirmed I will add them as well.
Whangarei appears devoid hotspots, even the library.
Sorry but I don't know of any in Whangarei . Do you know any there that I can add?
Kia ora,
The More Information link that you have for APNK wifi hotspots links to a wiki which is no longer in use. This information is now available in our new FAQs http://www.aotearoapeoplesnetwork.info/faq/wifi-r…
See also a list of partner libraries (those with wifi indicated by an asterix) http://www.aotearoapeoplesnetwork.org/content/par…
Cheers,
Moata
Aotearoa People's Network Kaharoa
Ok I will update the link, Cheers
There are now 4 nearly free hotspots located in Whangarei.
The Village Cafe, Kamo. Tahuna Reef at the Town Basin. Marina Court Motel and Casa Blanca Motel.
They offer FREE 15 Minutes daily to any user, no ticket required just connect and surf. If you require more the prices are very reasonable $10 day passes (250mb) etc.
I will email Jayson to keep the network of Mai Wi-Fi's updated. There are also 2 in Paihia.
Hi,
Just tried one for the first time, here in Twizel. Unfortunately, the POI is in the greenery outside town. The Zenbu coords are also wrong. Even more unfortunately, we are leaving here tomorrow, so can’t go and find the library, sorry. Pls. mark this POI as incorrect.
Thanks,
Peter.
Cheers, will be in the next update and I see you also updated Zenbu. Awesome.
Turns out I had a few mins to spare and followed the signs. The correct location is:
S44 15.345 E170 05.914
Thanks very much for this, it's exactly what I was looking for. =) Thank you!!
Also Hashigo Zake craft beer bar, 25 Taranaki St, Wellington CBD. Free wifi for bar patrons.
Sweet will add it in the next update.
Sweet will be added in the next update.
All mobil petrol stations have free wifi… Good connection, and have used it all over the country on my iPhone and notebook . Have fun
Correction: Kerikeri Public Library is at S35 13.684 E173 56.982
Will be fixed in the next update.
Are you sure it is every single one? I won't go to all the effort to add all of them until I can be certain it is all of them. If you can provide the ones you have used I will add them though.

Is there any reason why you are not updating these?
I can confirm that the Mobil On the Run on the corner of Bealey Avenue and Barbadoes St in Christchurch does. I sighted a sign on top of their pie-warmer!
do you have to go inside the mobil or can you park outside to use the wifi, I have a ipod touch
I have not come across any information that this is true. Which is why no McD's are on the map.
I don't know. It will depend on how strong their signal is. Radio waves are affected by walls but not necessarily stopped by them.
Is it true that all Mac Donalds have free wifi , I am new to wifi
I am a little busy at the moment and haven't had time to update recently. I am also looking at ways to improve the site and its functionality.

I No that mobil in highland park auckland has free wifi i use it now and again from in my car.. parked quite a little way away from the building seems to have good range..
[...] map may be more useful though as it shows where all the free wifi spots are http://jahoog.org/wifi/References : Leave a [...]
Cheers, I am now loading these onto the map in batches.
Sorry haven't been maintaining the site for a bit. Have removed download links due to problems. I can provide a kmz or kml file if needed.
No there isn't that I am aware of and I have and android as well. The POI are in kml format. not sure what format they would need to be in to be used with these apps.
I am sorry. I have spent time and money on this project and have minimal financial incentive (I have other incentives). Therefore some things might not work and may take awhile to fix.
What about Trade Me on the water front in Wellington
http://www.trademe.co.nz/community/announcements/…
I think you should have a drag and drop marker as opposed to the address entry fields. It would make single submissions a lot easier.
Sorry, it doesn't have that functionality. You can click on a spot to add the marker there.
Will be add shortly.
Sure are and they have all been added.
@Jayson, if you are a programmer, you can toggle Google maps marker to be draggable. If not, I can chip in for you.
BTW, almost all Mobil Gas Stations offer Free Wifi until 400 MB is reached or for 1 hr. They all limit the connection by MAC address. Tech folks can overcome the limitation imposed by Service providers.
Not a programmer, really just hacked this together. I am in the process of creating v2, which is a total rewrite so will make sure to include this. The current version is functional for now, until I roll the next version out. Thanks for offer of help though.
Great! In my personal opinion, I think people love the visual lookup more than a text based lookup. Especially, with maps, the wi-fi spots (as indicated by icons) are of great use for newbies in NZ. You can very well treat this as a feedback from a person who benefited by your service as Inet access is usally expensive in NZ.
At Hamilton, internet is available for free over hamiltonline wi-fi zone (in and around garden place area).
At Rotorua, internet is available at McDonalds and at the Public Library.
At Taupo, internet is available at McDonalds. But they do not offer any power supply points (not that i could spot one).
Hi, any spots in Tauranga, Mt Maunganui?
Hi, any spots in Paihia
palmerston north has a free 100mb, per mth, per device in the square and around the fmg stadium
All 3 MacDonalds and also Esquires Cafe in Rathbone St. If you're having a beer in Killer Prawn, you can also pick up the MacDonald's free WiFi.
In Hamilton (North Island) in the centre:
Garden Place outside on the whole place plus small part of Victoria Street has free WIFI since end of 2010 via Hamilton Online for visitors
Cheers
Garden Place in Hamilton is more like WiFi free than free WiFi – the service is unreliable and normally drops out before it even obtains an IP address. It's a bit of an embarrassment to be honest.
You're much more likely to get a workable connection by going up to Level 2 of the library, which is in Garden Place.
